As per usual, there are two approaches to cooking Americana, Lars’ way, and the right way (Jenn’s).
Boil 3-4 yams for about an hour until flesh is fully cooked
Remove skin
Add:
225 ml brown sugar
70 gm butter
Mix yams, sugar, and butter together with a potato masher until the consistency of mashed potatoes.
Place in casserole dish.
Top with marshmallows (Jenn prefers the large ones, perfectly, evenly placed in rows. Her parents typically just dump a munch of mini marshmallow on top and smoosh them in to irritate her).
Broil yams until marshmallows are browned (not blackened like s’mores).
